The Tampa Bay Rays are once again leaning on a strong pitching staff (3.29 team ERA) to win games and currently own the first AL Wild Card spot with a 45-37 record. Upgrading the offense is becoming a must, though, which makes manager Kevin Cash's team a buyer at the MLB trade deadline.

Tampa Bay Rays Trade Rumors

The Rays would benefit from adding to the outfield given how much Brett Phillips and Josh Lowe have struggled to show consistency at the plate. However, ESPN's David Schoenfield suggests moving Harold Ramirez to a corner OF spot would clear the way for a Christian Walker trade.

Walker has quietly become one of the best power bats in the league, tallying 21 home runs across 80 games in 2021. He also leads the Arizona Diamondbacks with 41 runs scored and 42 RBI.

Sliding Walker into the DH slot would give Tampa Bay a batter capable of hitting the ball out of the yard every single time. That would be huge considering the Rays are tied for 20th in the MLB with 77 long balls. Only one player on the team has even reached double-digits in HRs (Isaac Paredes).

The Rays have to to be careful here because Walker is still eligible for arbitration for two more seasons. Putting together a package that makes it worth it for Arizona may be tougher than it seems. Tampa Bay has odds set at +3200 to win the World Series, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
