The Atlanta Braves have finally looked like the defending World Series champions over the last month or so. A 24-7 record since June 1 has the Braves tied with the New York Yankees for the best record during that stretch, positioning Atlanta as a buyer ahead of the MLB trade deadline.

With Adam Duvall's struggles in the outfield, MLB insider David Schoenfield sees that as a position that the Braves must upgrade. In fact, the ESPN analyst has one specific target in mind: Arizona Diamondbacks veteran LF David Peralta.

Braves Trade Rumors

Peralta is a player that a lot of contenders will be chasing in the coming weeks, likely giving the Braves some competition. The 34-year-old has smashed 109 home runs and driven in 462 base-runners in 943 games, which is the type of resumé that top teams are looking for ahead of the deadline.

As mentioned before, Duvall has struggled at the plate this year, recording just 10 HRs and 32 RBIs while batting .205 in 77 games. Meanwhile, Peralta has better HR (11) and RBI (35) totals than Duvall in 36 fewer at-bats (263 vs. 227). It's not a huge difference, but it's enough to matter.

Peralta is also a left-handed batter, opening up the door for him to split time with Duvall. Even if the former Silver Slugger isn't a massive upgrade, his presence could create competition with Duvall, leaving the Braves with the best possible outcome in the end.

Fortunately, Peralta is also a free agent at the end of the 2022 MLB season. Even though the Braves likely won't have to break the bank to land him, the asking price will jump the closer we get to the trade deadline. In other words, the sooner a deal is done, the better.

Braves World Series Odds

The Braves' turnaround has boosted them back into the championship picture and a Peralta acquisition could further improve their odds. FanDuel Sportsbook currently has Atlanta available at +1300 (T-No. 5) to win the 2022 World Series.
