We should be looking at yet another competitive year for Big Ten football, with the Michigan Wolverines and Ohio State Buckeyes widely projected as the conference's top two teams once again. There is no love lost between these schools either.
According to FanDuel Sportsbook, Ohio State currently has better odds to win the national championship than Michigan, at +1500 and +1900, respectively. However, it's actually Michigan that has received more bets to win this year's national title by handle thus far.
Early on, Michigan has been a popular bet to win the national championship, garnering 4.85 percent of the money wagered, which ranks as the third-most popular bet by handle. Ohio State isn't far behind though, receiving 3.14 percent of amount of money placed.
With new head coach Ryan Day and transfer quarterback Justin Fields, Ohio State is still expected to be the top dog in the Big Ten this year. But finally with talent and stability at the quarterback position in Shea Patterson, Wolverines' head coach Jim Harbaugh and Michigan think this can be the season they finally get over the hump.
The Alabama Crimson Tide have received the most bets by handle to win the national championship by a mile, garnering 47.67 percent of the total amount of money wagered. The Georgia Bulldogs (17.42 percent) and Clemson Tigers (3.85 percent) round out the top five bets by handle right now.
