There seemed to be a shift in the Miami Dolphins' philosophy when the franchise hired offensive-minded Mike McDaniel as the next head coach. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has been an easy target for criticism with his early struggles, but the new staff seems to be rallying around the young signal-caller.

Another member of the coaching staff, new offensive coordinator Frank Smith, shared his own excitement for the young playmaker.

Smith heaped praise on his new QB during an interview with Sports Illustrated on Wednesday, specifically drawing attention to his "extremely accurate" passing and "patience with things" of building new schemes.

“I know just in the limited stuff from this week, just super excited the more tape we get to watch. With the hiring process, you get in here, and you’re trying to get a staff together, you’re trying to figure out, combine, all this. And now as we’re getting into it every week, more and more tape, we get more and more excited. … You’re going, ‘This is going to be really, really cool to have him at quarterback for us.'”

Tua completed 68 percent of his passes for 2,653 yards and 16 touchdowns to 10 interceptions last year.

New head coach McDaniel already spent his own time expressing excitement for Tua. Now, the offensive think-tank will have to put these new plans in motion. Miami holds +3600 odds (21st) to win Super Bowl 57 on FanDuel Sportsbook, which marks Tua's third full season in the NFL.
