Mets Get Terrific News on Max Scherzer's Latest Injury Update
The New York Mets continue to roll without two Cy Young pitchers in their rotation, taking two of three games against the Miami Marlins over the weekend. Max Scherzer and Jacob deGrom remained sidelined with injury, but those fortunes may change soon.
A new report from MLB insider Jon Heyman offered some terrific news around Scherzer's latest injury update. Heyman reports the three-time Cy Young winner Scherzer remains ahead of his rehab schedule, and could actually be in "consideration" to start on Sunday, June 26 in Miami against the Marlins.
Max Scherzer Injury Update
Scherzer is scheduled for another rehab start on Tuesday, which may be a final deciding factor in his impending return. This is well ahead of the original six-to-eight week timeline for his recovery.
Scherzer last pitched on May 18th before going down with an oblique injury. The six-to-eight week mark from that date put his initial return around June 29-July 13.
The Mets also recently lost another starting pitcher in Tylor Megill after he suffered a shoulder strain. The rotation is hurting and Scherzer's return is exactly what this franchise needs, despite their resilience to overcome injury issues.
New York leads the Atlanta Braves by 5.5 games in the NL East standings with their 44-24 overall record. The Mets conclude a four-game set against the Marlins on Monday, and enter the matchup as -162 moneyline favorites, according to MLB odds on FanDuel Sportsbook.
