Early injury woes have already caused the vibe surrounding the New York Mets to sour just days before Opening Day arrives. This team was built to overcome these exact issues, though. The Mets have a shot to win it all in 2022 and are being disrespected by ESPN's latest MLB power rankings.

New York Mets Power Rankings

The Mets check in at No. 8 and trail three other National League teams. That includes a divisional rival in the Atlanta Braves (No. 3). When it comes down to it, the Mets are a top five team. Their depth at the plate and on the mound will ultimately determine how far they can go.

The news that Jacob deGrom will miss significant time with a stress reaction in his right shoulder is definitely a massive blow to the rotation. However, the front office prepared for this. Three-time Cy Young winner Max Scherzer and 2021 All-Star Chris Bassitt will simply hold down the fort for now.

Keep in mind the Mets still finished within the top 10 in team ERA (3.90) and strikeouts per nine innings pitched (9.48) last season. It was their struggles at the plate that killed them. That is why players like Eduardo Escobar and Starling Marte were brought in via free agency this offseason.

Escobar has racked up 228 RBIs over the last three seasons and smacked 28 home runs in 2021. Meanwhile, Marte is coming off a season in which he stole a league-high 47 bases. Add in the possibility of a bounce back season from shortstop Francisco Lindor and this lineup is scary.

When it comes down to it, the Mets have the pieces in place to live up to the hype for the first time in years. New York has odds set at +1500 to win the World Series, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
