If last NFL season showed anything to the Cincinnati Bengals' coaching staff, it is that they need to build around quarterback Joe Burrow. One way they can do that is through the upcoming NFL draft. With the No. 5 overall pick, they will have their choice between multiple game-changing players.
Mel Kiper has the Bengals taking Florida tight end Kyle Pitts with their first-round pick. this may seem surprising, but Pitts continues to climb up draft boards leading up to April. He made headlines recently by running an unofficial 4.46 40-yard dash at 6-foot-6 and 240 pounds.
Kyle Pitts Bengals
Pitts is the perfect combination of wide receiver and tight end. He racked up 770 yards on 43 receptions (17.9 yards per reception) and scored 12 touchdowns in just eight games played last season. He regularly beat man coverage and showed his versatility by being used as a blocker on many plays.
The skillset that Pitts has should make him a top option for the Bengals. He is a nightmare matchup for opposing defenders and could become Burrow's favorite target very quickly. His size also helps him excel at going up and getting fifty-fifty balls. In fact, he graded as the best receiver in the red zone last season, according to PFF.
The Bengals need to come out of the draft with an offensive playmaker and Pitts checks all of the boxes. Regarded as one of the best tight end prospects in the last decade, Pitts may not fall any further than the No. 5 overall draft pick.
