Mecole Hardman Injury Update is Major Relief for Chiefs Fans

Kansas City Chiefs fans had a right to panic after wide receiver Mecole Hardman exited Wednesday's practice on a cart. The 24-year-old landed awkwardly while trying to catch a pass during team red zone drills. No panic is needed, though, as Hardman's latest injury update comes with positive news.

Mecole Hardman Injury Update

Head coach Andy Reid told reporters that Hardman is working through a groin spasm and is already making progress toward a return. In fact, he hasn't been ruled out for the Chiefs next preseason game on Saturday. That is when Kansas City will welcome the Washington Commanders to GEHA Field.

Look for the Chiefs to take a cautious approach with Hardman moving forward. Groin injuries have a tendency to linger if not give the proper time to heal, no matter how minor or major it is. The last thing this coaching staff wants to deal with is not having one of their top pass-catchers ready by Week 1.

Entering his fourth season with Kansas City, Hardman put together his most productive campaign in 2021. The former Georgia standout hauled in 59 of his 83 targets for 693 yards and 2 touchdowns (17 games). His role on the offense is set to increase without All-Pro Tyreek Hill in the picture, too.

It's worth noting Hardman wasn't the only Chiefs player injured on Wednesday. Defensive tackle Chris Jones left practice early with a sore back, but is not expected to miss more than a few days. Kansas City has the third-best odds to win Super Bowl 57 at +1000, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
