Mavericks Make Splash by Signing Former All-Star

The Dallas Mavericks announced on Monday that they will be signing former All-Star point guard Kemba Walker to a deal. Walker last played for his hometown New York Knicks last season, but the homecoming didn't go as planned and Walker was traded to the Detroit Pistons during a flurry of deals for the Knicks on draft night.

Walker never suited up for the Pistons and was eventually cut by the team, making him a free agent. He remained unsigned until Monday.

Walker marks yet another former Knick added to the Mavericks roster, which already has Tim Hardaway Jr., Frank Ntilikina and Reggie Bullock. Walker will presumably be a backup for Luka Doncic, a position that Dallas was thin at.
It's clear Walker's best days are behind him and logging significant minutes is something his knees simply won't allow anymore. He still surely has the talent and drive to contribute in a complementary role though. As long as Dallas does what it can to keep Walker healthy, this could be a valuable signing.
