It took five games, but a New England Patriots player has finally been recognized as an AFC Player of the Week during the 2022 season.

Not surprisingly, the first Patriot to do so was a member of the defense.

Patriots Player of the Week

Linebacker Matthew Judon won AFC Defensive Player of the Week for his contributions to New England's 29-0 rout of the Detroit Lions in Week 5. The three-time Pro Bowler was an absolute menace on defense, racking up 2.0 sacks, 3 tackles and 4 QB hits. He also forced a fumble, helping the Patriots shut out the Lions at Gillette Stadium.

The award was Judon's second player of the week honor and his first since 2017, back when he was with the Baltimore Ravens. Judon signed with New England prior to the 2021 season and has been one of the team's top defensive players since his arrival.

The 30-year-old currently leads the NFL with 6 sacks after recording at least one in every game this year. His 12.5 sacks last year were the most of his career, giving him an impressive 18.5 sacks in 22 games with the Patriots.

Judon will look to anchor New England's defense again this week when the Patriots take on the Cleveland Browns. New England is listed as a 2.5-point road underdog on FanDuel Sportsbook's NFL odds, but another big defensive performance from Judon could help the Patriots pull off an upset.
