Matt Nagy No-Showed for Meeting With Mitch Trubisky After 2019 Season

The Chicago Bears made headlines on Monday when they fired both head coach Matt Nagy and general manager Ryan Pace in an effort to start fresh. Details are now emerging about how the relationship between Nagy and starting quarterback Mitchell Trubisky was doomed before it even began.

Nagy reportedly did not show up to a meeting with Trubisky that was planned to discuss how he could improve following the 2019 season. The 2017 first-round pick was ready to go with notes and ideas, but it seems like the Chicago HC had his own way of showing his true opinion.
This isn't the only time Trubisky was ignored, either. Adam Jahns and Kevin Fishbain's latest column in The Athletic outlined how the former UNC standout adamantly spoke out about offensive issues during training camp in 2020. He was just met with sarcastic optimism from his teammates, though.
The soured relationship between Nagy and Trubisky likely started right when the former Kansas City Chiefs' offensive coordinator was hired. Reports claim Nagy had both Patrick Mahomes and Deshaun Watson atop his draft list, yet was saddled with a player that never truly fit his offensive system.
No matter how you look at it, Nagy's stint in Chicago was soiled by questionable decisions and a botched playoff game back in 2018. The Bears' top priority heading into the offseason should be finding a new leader capable of bringing the team together around first-round QB Justin Fields.
