The Miami Marlins have had more downs than ups in 2022, resulting in a 22-30 record after 52 games. Their bullpen has been one of the aspects behind their underwhelming start as Miami's relievers have combined to a 4.22 ERA — ninth-worst in the MLB as of June 7.

The latest Marlins trade rumors now point to the organization turning its attention to a former All-Star reliever. Team insider Craig Mish is reporting that Miami is set to attend free-agent Trevor Rosenthal's workout in South Florida on Tuesday.

Marlins Roster Rumors

Rosenthal has remained a free agent after missing the entire 2021 MLB season after undergoing hip surgery. Teams were smart to wait and watch him workout before offering a contract, but all signs indicate that he's looking good so far.

It isn't much of a surprise that the Marlins and other teams would love to have Rosenthal in their bullpen. The 32-year-old has pitched 364.0 innings over his eight-season career, maintaining a 3.36 ERA while racking up 132 saves — 13th-most among active pitchers.

The hope is that Rosenthal can look like his 2020 self upon his return. He went 1-0 in 23 appearances split between the Kansas City Royals and San Diego Padres that year, finishing with a 1.90 ERA and 11 saves.

It's expected that the Lee's Summit, MO native will need some time to become MLB-ready. Nearly two years between appearances is a long time, but, fortunately, everything seems to be trending in the direction of a Rosenthal rebound, whether that's with the Marlins or elsewhere.
