No matter how great Trae Young has played recently, he just can't seem to catch fellow first-year player, Luka Doncic, in the race for the NBA Rookie of the Year Award. Doncic has been the favorite to win the award for much of the season, according to FanDuel Sportsbook, and the difference between the two remains pretty massive with just 20 days left in the NBA regular season.

Despite these odds, their numbers are more similar than these odds say. Yes, Doncic has the edge over Young in points (21.1 to 18.9) and rebounds (7.6 to 3.6) per game this season, but Young has more assists (7.9 to 5.9) and is shooting better from three and the free-throw line.

Young’s late push, with more points per game over the past month, was enough to make this a conversation, but Doncic has done enough over the entirety of the season to give him this substantial lead.

With less than 10 games to play, unless something outlandish occurs, it’s safe to say Doncic will likely take home the award when all is said and done.
