Lions Rookie Playing With Chip on His Shoulder
The Detroit Lions drafted USC wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown in the fourth round (No. 112) of the 2021 NFL Draft in order to address their dire need at the position. Well, it seems like the rookie is playing with a chip on his shoulder after being the 16th wideout taken.
Many NFL players have used their draft position as motivation to outperform expectations in the past, but they didn't always state it out loud like St. Brown. The young pass-catcher will have an opportunity in training camp to earn a starting role on the Lions and prove all of his doubters wrong.
St. Brown even went as far as to saying he will be using the 15 names taken before him as fuel to play well as a rookie.
"That’s kind of the chip that I have on my shoulder coming in, everything that I do. Whenever I’m thinking about anything, that just comes back to my mind and it just motivates me to do more."- Amon-Ra St. Brown
This kind of passion should excite Lions fans given the changing culture surrounding the team. St. Brown has a shot to be an immediate playmaker after racking up 2,270 yards on 178 receptions across three seasons with the Trojans (30 games played). He also scored 16 touchdowns during his college career.
If St. Brown can build a quick connection with new starting quarterback Jared Goff, who knows what could happen. He could look back at his fall to the fourth round as the start of his NFL success story.
