The Detroit Lions' offense surged without two of their best weapons during their Week 4 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. Despite putting up 45 points, the team is eager for the healthy returns of running back D'Andre Swift and wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown.

Head coach Dan Campbell provided a "wait-and-see" update on the two playmakers on Wednesday. But unfortunately, the news surrounding Swift took a bad turn on Thursday.

D'Andre Swift Injury Update

NFL insider Jeremy Fowler reported Thursday morning that Detroit "will likely be without" Swift for the Week 5 matchup with the New England Patriots.

Detroit has a bye week after facing New England, so the expectation is for Swift to fully recover from his shoulder injury before returning in Week 7.

Even with the success of backup Jamaal Williams, this is a brutal update for the Lions. Swift is one of the most dynamic pass-catching RBs in football. The 23-year-old is averaging an insane 8.6 yards per rushing attempt and has already turned 8 receptions into 1 receiving TD and 77 yards.

That sort of explosive production is hard to recreate. Williams has been a force scoring in the red zone and leads the league with 6 rushing TDs, but his 4.5 yards per carry pales in comparison to Swift's figure.

Detroit will have its hands full in Week 5 against a resilient New England squad that nearly upset the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field in Week 4. Despite the Patriots' uncertainty at quarterback, the Lions enter this game as 3.5-point road underdogs according to FanDuel Sportsbook's NFL odds.
