The Detroit Lions just finished up their fourth straight season in which they finished with a record under the .500 mark. It's not all negative, though. Head coach Dan Campbell is clearly changing the culture for the better in Detroit and fans will also love Mel Kiper's first 2022 NFL Mock Draft.

Lions Mock Draft

Kiper has the Lions selecting Oregon defensive end Kayvon Thibodeaux with the No. 2 overall pick. There's no way around it. This is a big-time move that would help improve a weak Detroit defense. Keep in mind the Lions gave up the second-most points per game in the NFL (27.5).

Detroit struggled to make opposing quarterback feel uncomfortable in the pocket and posted the the third-fewest sacks in the league (30.0). Charles Harris led the team with 7.5 sacks, but is now set to enter free agency. Adding a pass rusher to the mix should be a to priority for the front office.

The good news is that Thibodeaux possesses everything the Lions are missing. The 21-year-old's ability to explode at the snap of the ball allowed him to rack up 19.0 sacks across 30 college games. It's worth noting he also posted the second-best pressure rate in the country this past fall (17.8%).

Thibodeaux was able to blow by offensive lineman without having to use a variety of moves. Learning under some of the NFL's brightest minds could easily unleash his full potential. It'll be interesting to see if Detroit goes this route when the NFL Draft begins on Thursday, April 28.
