Tampa Bay Buccaneers' running back Leonard Fournette finally looked like the player he was drafted to be in the 2020 NFL Playoffs. The former Jacksonville Jaguars' RB came into Super Bowl LV averaging 70.3 rushing yards and 34.0 receiving yards per outing through three playoff games.
He's looked just as dominant in the Super Bowl, tallying 129 yards from scrimmage and a touchdown on 18 touches, as of the writing of this article.
That unreal performance on the NFL's biggest stage should make Fournette a really attractive piece when he hits free agency this offseason. With that in mind, here are the three most likely destinations for Fournette in free agency.
Leonard Fournette Free Agency
3. New York Jets
The New York Jets are entering the offseason period projected to have the second-most cap space in the NFL, per Spotrac. They have a huge hole at the position and have more than enough cap space to make a splashy signing at RB. Fournette could be a particularly enticing option because he's likely to cost less on the open market than someone like Aaron Jones, allowing NY to address other key positions. And he'd still be a huge upgrade over what the Jets have currently.
2. Miami Dolphins
Sticking with the AFC East, the Miami Dolphins also have a need at RB. Projected to have the ninth-most space in the league, the Dolphins shouldn't have much trouble bringing in a player of Fournette's caliber. He'd form a nasty 1-2 punch with the team's incumbent starter Myles Gaskin. Building a run game could be a great way to help Tua Tagovailoa's development, and Fournette and Gaskin are both solid pass-catchers to boot.
1. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Still, it wouldn't be a shock to see Fournette stay put. The Buccaneers have him playing at a higher level than he's ever reached in the NFL, and Tampa Bay gives him the best chance to win of any team on this list. It would be great to see Playoff Lenny get a few more chances to justify that nickname in the postseason. If the two sides can come to an agreement financially, it's not a stretch to think Fournette could return in 2021.
