Coming off an injury-plagued 2018, Leonard Fournette is back at full health to start the 2019 season. With one of the biggest projected workloads among starting running backs, Fournette will be looking to start the year on the right foot with a Week 1 home matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Leonard Fournette Week 1 Fantasy Football Outlook

The Chiefs make for a mouthwatering matchup, as they were absolutely gutted by running backs last season. The two teams met in 2018, and while Fournette was out due to injury, backup RB T.J. Yeldon was a fantasy stud, posting 122 scrimmage yards, eight receptions and a receiving TD.

Fournette has struggled with efficiency so far in his NFL career, averaging 3.7 yards per carry through his first 21 games. One thing he has not lacked, however, is volume, averaging 21.8 touches in his final six games last season.

While there is always a chance the Chiefs run up the score early and force the Jaguars into a pass-heavy game script, Jacksonville's elite defense, playing at home, should keep the game close. They are only 3.5-point underdogs on FanDuel Sportsbook. Even if Kansas City goes up big early, the increased emphasis on Fournette's role in the passing game should make him immune to game flow in Week 1.

The Jags' depth chart behind Fournette does not inspire a lot of confidence, especially now that career backup Alfred Blue is on the injured reserve. That leaves rookie Ryquell Armstead as the lone threat to Fournette's touches early in the season.

Fournette could be one of the most productive running backs on the slate, and he sits 16th among RBs in our Week 1 fantasy football rankings.
