Two teams have emerged as the frontrunners to land Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz via trade, with the Chicago Bears and Indianapolis Colts rumored to be in contention. The Colts have an obvious need at quarterback with the retirement of Philip Rivers, meanwhile, the Bears are trying to figure out their future starting QB.
Carson Wentz Bears Trade Rumors
However, the latest trade rumor involving Wentz seems to make the Bears look desperate.
It's Chicago that has apparently been more aggressive in its pursuit of the former No. 2 overall pick, which is questionable for a few reasons.
First off, the Colts are true contenders with the right QB, yet if the Bears are pursuing Wentz harder than Indy, that should give Chicago pause. Why wouldn't the Colts go all-in on Wentz if he's as great as advertised? Because he's flawed like many other quarterbacks, and has a $30-plus million cap hit in each of the next four seasons.
The Bears appear committed to the idea of "fixing" Wentz, but there's no guarantee he'll turn it around. Chicago could trip over themselves to give up picks for the quarterback that tied for the league lead in INTs (15) and threw only one more touchdown (16) last season.
More known talents like Jameis Winston or Ryan Fitzpatrick are free agents this offseason, and if Chicago is intent on moving on from Trubisky, it makes a lot more sense to pursue one of those options than getting in a bidding war for a currently broken Wentz.
