Kyle Shanahan isn't one to give away much about the San Francisco 49ers' game plan. Shanahan was coy all offseason about who the team's Week 1 starting quarterback would be, and now he faces a similar situation in the backfield after the recent injury to Raheem Mostert.

However, he's not about to start giving away any secrets now.

49ers Running Backs

Shanahan said after the game that there would be no clear hierarchy in the backfield going forward, which creates even more questions. He'll likely ride the hot hand between Mostert (when healthy), Trey Sermon, Elijah Mitchell and JaMycal Hasty.

The latter trio has a golden opportunity to prove their worth if Mostert misses any time. San Francisco's starter only had two rushes on Sunday before leaving with a knee injury, and his status is unknown at this point.

That allowed Mitchell to shine with Sermon a healthy scratch. Mitchell racked up 104 yards and a TD on 19 carries. Hasty also recorded a score on his lone rushing attempt of the game.

Sermon now has to play catch-up after being demoted. Still, the 2021 third-round pick has plenty of talent that could vault him back up the depth chart if Mostert is sidelined.

The 49ers now head into a Week 2 matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles. San Francisco is 3.5-point favorite, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
