As the 145th running of the Kentucky Derby approaches, we finally have the post positions, which in some cases can determine a horses chances at winning the race.

As of May 1, the morning-line favorite is Omaha Beach, who was previously in a three-way tie for first place with Game Winner and Roadster, with 4/1 odds.

Omaha Beach's raise in the odds most likely came from him landing in the 12th positon, which is exactly where his trainers wanted him.

Famed trainer Bob Baffert has three horses running in this race, Game Winner, Roadster and Improbable. Improbable drew the 5 position, the best of the bunch. According to history, Roadster drew the worst position at 17. The 17 position is 0-39 in Derby races since 1930. Game Winner is slotted next to him at 16, not much better.

War of Will drew the feared 1 post, but has shown the ability to break out of the gate fast. Who knows if he will have the stamina to keep it going until the finish, which he seemed to struggle with in his last race, finishing ninth.

Whoever comes out of top, for the first time in a long time, heading into the Run for the Roses, there isn't a clear favorite. Although, if the favorite does end up winning, that will mark seven straight Derbys that saw the favorite sitting in the winner's circle.
