One of the most notable free agents still on the market as training camps get underway is linebacker K.J. Wright. The former Seattle Seahawks Pro Bowler still has plenty left in the tank, but he hasn't found the situation (or compensation) just yet.
It looked like Wright could finally latch on with a new team on Thursday, but he walked away without a contract.
KJ Wright News
Wright met with the Raiders in Las Vegas, and a free agent meeting a team on their home soil usually seems to be a precursor to a deal. However, the veteran is still unsigned. "A few teams" remain interested in Wright, so he could find himself in demand if players underperform or get injured in the lead-up to the regular season.
The 31-year-old has spent each of his first 10 seasons in the league with the Seahawks. He racked up 10 passes defended in 2020 along with 60 solo tackles, 11 tackles for loss, 2.0 sacks and an interception. He earned a 75.3 overall grade from PFF for his performance last year, so he could still make an impact on a team in need of LB help.
The Raiders may still be in the hunt for Wright services, and it's easy to see a possible reunion in Seattle shaping up later this summer as well.
