Jimmy Garoppolo Plans to Channel Tom Brady This Offseason

The San Francisco 49ers went all-in to land the No. 3 overall pick and select Trey Lance in the 2021 NFL Draft. This included trading two first-round picks with the Miami Dolphins to move up to that slot.

With the franchise leaning in on a potential replacement under center, current 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo plans to be more welcoming than some may have thought. Garoppolo intends to channel his inner Tom Brady and help guide Lance through his rookie season.

Before Garoppolo came to the 49ers, he was the heir apparent at quarterback for the New England Patriots. Garoppolo spent three seasons in New England playing behind one of the greatest quarterbacks to ever do it. Throughout that time, Brady was more than willing to show Garoppolo the ropes.

This offseason, Garoppolo plans to do the same. He mentioned that everything was "kind of coming full circle," and wants to mold his relationship with Lance into that.

Throughout his four-year tenure in San Francisco, injuries have plagued the 29-year-old Garoppolo. He started all 16 games in 2019 but hasn't recorded more than six starts in each of his other three seasons with the 49ers. He's thrown 46 touchdowns and 26 interceptions during this span.

No matter what happens with the quarterback situation in San Francisco, the 49ers own solid odds to take home a championship next year.
