Jets News: Carl Lawson Injury Update is Devastating for New York

The New York Jets caught a bad break during Thursday's training camp practice. New edge rusher Carl Lawson went down with a left leg injury during a red zone period. The injury was severe enough to have the 25-year-old pass-rusher carted off the field.

Carl Lawson Injury
With the timeliness of this injury, of course no official word has been updated from the Jets' staff. However, it's certainly leaves the possibility of a crushing blow to head coach Robert Saleh's new-look defense. Lawson has been the recipient of a ton of training camp praise and was even projected to earn his first-ever Pro Bowl appearance in 2021.
Early indications should have fans fearing for the worst. A potential torn Achilles can be a truly devastating injury, and Lawson reportedly felt a pop, which is often indicative of a tear.
I was told Lawson reported feeling a pop. The #Jets, for now, are holding their breath. https://t.co/14mAEdMQYP

Carl Lawson Stats
New York's pass-rush was a major area of concern in 2021. During the campaign, the Jets managed just 31 total sacks, or 1.9 per game. That ranked just 21st in the entire league while the defense also gave up 28.6 points per game to opposing offenses (26th).
Carl Lawson Contract
Lawson signed a 3-year, $45 million contract with the Jets, which includes $30 million in guaranteed money.
Saleh and his staff will hope for the best with this Lawson injury scare. Hopefully, it's not at serious as originally thought and he can rest up in time for Week 1 of the 2021 NFL season, a game in which the Jets are +4.5-point underdogs on FanDuel Sportsbook.
