Many are still mourning the death of 38-year-old former NFL quarterback Jared Lorenzen, also known as the "Hefty Lefty," from last week. In a recent podcast from The Action Network, a story was told by Lorenzen's friend, Drew Franklin, about how the quarterback texted his friends the Gatorade color to bet on before the 2007 Super Bowl matchup against the New England Patriots.

One of the more popular Super Bowl prop bets continues to be the color of Gatorade dumped on the winning coach. Lorenzen decided to help his gambling friends make some money, texting them the Gatorade color before the game, since he was on the New York Giants team that played in that Super Bowl.

Unfortunately, Lorenzen's friends assumed, like nearly everyone, that the Patriots would win the game. So after the 300-plus pound quarterback snuck over to the New England sideline before the game to ensure he had both colors for his friends, they only bet on New England's color.

This gem of a story is a funny one, but there is a lesson to be learned: remember to hedge your bets.
