The New Orleans Saints are about to enter a new era for the team following the retirement of longtime starting quarterback Drew Brees. Jameis Winston is the expected favorite to win the starting job in training camp and fans will love to hear what he had to say about it recently.

Winston explained how he aims to be more of a game manager next season as opposed to the type of player he has been in the past. While that term may be taken negatively by some people, Winston has built a reputation for turning the ball over and could use some change in his play.

Winston last started a full season in 2019 with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and finished with a league-leading 30 interceptions. He also suffered a career-high 47 sacks, but did throw for over 5,000 yards and totaled 34 touchdowns. His erratic play can definitely be frustrating to watch.

That is why it was important for him to take a season to learn behind a projected hall of famer in Brees. With offensive weapons like Alvin Kamara and Michael Thomas on the offense, Winston won't have to ball out in order to win games. He just needs to lead the offense and keep the ball moving.

The potential is still there for Winston to become a solid starting quarterback in the NFL and Saints fan should be glad to hear he is ready to get to work to reach that. If he can take a step back when it comes to the risky throws, Winston may be able to thrive in head coach Sean Payton's offense.
