The Utah Jazz are playing on Wednesday, taking on the LA Clippers as they fight to climb in the crowded Western Conference standings.
Heading into the contest, the main questions from fans surround the health of forward Lauri Markkanen, who has missed the past two contests with a hip issue.
Is Lauri Markkanen Playing Tonight Against Denver?
Update (4:50 p.m. ET): Markkanen has been listed by the team as available for Wednesday's contest. Meanwhile, the Jazz will be without Kelly Olynyk, Johnny Juzang and Micah Potter. Our original story follows below.
The latest news on Lauri Markkanen's injury status is trending in the right direction. He's been officially upgraded to questionable status as he deals with a hip contusion. Markkanen did not suit up for two games following the initial injury, missing Jan. 14's loss to the Philadelphia 76ers and Jan. 16's win over the Minnesota Timberwolves.
While a questionable status still leaves things up in the air, the fact that Markkanen has been upgraded to questionable means he's trending in the right direction.
Lauri Markkanen Fantasy Outlook and Prop Bets
FanDuel Sportsbook's NBA odds have the Jazz as 5.5-point favorites in this one. The Sportsbook also lists only a handful of prop bets for Jazz players (Jordan Clarkson and Mike Conley), potentially indicating there's a serious chance Markkanen suits up. His status will change the rebounding and point scoring figures for other forwards on the roster like Jarred Vanderbilt and Malik Beasley.
While his status remains up in the air, Markkanen is still an interesting DFS option tonight with his $8,200 price tag on FanDuel. The sixth-year pro is enjoying a career year, topping high numbers of 24.6 points and 1.9 assists per game. Thought not a career-high, he's still averaging 8.6 rebounds and 0.6 steals per game. Markkanen ranks fifth amongst SF playing tonight in terms of DFS points per game. His salary is a touch lower than that, the sixth most expensive SF on tonight's slate.
Considering we aren't getting much of a discount, and the over/under of 227.5 points (second-lowest) for tonight's Jazz-Clippers contest, he's a player I'd avoid.
