The Minnesota Vikings shocked the NFL world on Sunday with a massive trade to acquire Detroit Lions tight end T.J. Hockenson for a slew of picks. While Hockenson is viewed as a good tight end, many believe the price the Vikings paid for him is too high.

Irv Smith Injury Update

Although, we now may have an answer as to why Minnesota was so desperate to get a deal done. Vikings tight end Irv Smith Jr. is now expected to be out for 8-10 weeks, almost effectively ending his regular season, or close to it.

Smith was never able to blossom into the star tight end he was in college, though he was beginning to show flashes. This injury may have ended his last chance at a real run with the Vikings. Hockenson has been far more effective and now provides quarterback Kirk Cousins with another legit receiving threat to go along with Justin Jefferson and Adam Thielen.

The Vikings are currently leading the NFC North at 6-1 and only got better with this acquisition. Clearly, the Vikings are going all in on this roster, and they should. Minnesota holds +1600 odds to win the championship this season, according to FanDuel Sportsbook's latest Super Bowl odds.
