The Carolina Hurricanes take on the New York Islanders in the second round of the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs, following a seven-game series with the defending-champion Washington Capitals. The Islanders, who swept the Pittsburgh Penguins in their first-round series, are favored in Game 1 of this series (-140) and are +500 to win the Stanley Cup, according to FanDuel Sportsbook. Carolina's odds to win the title are +750.

As it's always smart to hear what those in the industry have to say before placing a bet, here are some expert predictions for the series between the Hurricanes and Islanders.

Hurricanes vs Islanders Predictions

The Hockey News

The crew at The Hockey News note how poor the goaltending was for the Hurricanes in the first round. While it was enough to get by the Capitals, they think the Islanders pose a much tougher task. The Hockey News is predicting the Islanders to win the series in six games.

Sports Media Pass

Devin Little, of Sports Media Pass, thinks that this series has a very high likelihood of going the distance. He notes that Carolina has the talent to win the series, but that New York has the coaching edge and the home-ice advantage. Little is taking the Islanders to win, but says that they'll need seven games to get there.

Double G Sports

Chris Passarelli, of Double G Sports, notes how this series is a true toss up. While the Islanders have the edge in coaching, special teams and goaltending, Passarelli thinks that these teams are incredibly evenly matched. Still, he's giving the edge to the team with the home-ice advantage. Passarelli likes the Islanders in six.

That's a clean sweep for the Islanders with all three experts taking New York to win in six or seven games.
