The Cleveland Guardians bullpen took a blow on Sunday, as lefty reliever Anthony Gose landed on the 15-day injured list with a left triceps strain. Gose hasn't exactly been lights-out in his limited playing time this season, but his replacement doesn't inspire a ton of confidence either.

In a corresponding move, the Guardians have recalled a familiar face in right-hander James Karinchak.

Karinchak likes to tease Cleveland fans with his potential. Pitching 27 major league innings in 2020, he dazzled with a 2.67 ERA. He even followed that up with a respectable 4.07 ERA in 2021.

Things have not been clicking for the 26-year-old in 2022, however. He's made 12 Triple-A appearances, stumbling to a 5.73 ERA.

Ultimately he offers a lot of what Gose does, and this move shouldn't prove too impactful. Gose is giving up 6.0 walks per nine innings on the season, but pairs that with a strong 12.0 strikeouts per nine. Karinchak shows the same issues with walks (9.0 BB/9), but the same upside with strikeouts (13.9 K/9).

These moves don't really move the needle in the betting markets, and Cleveland is a +136 underdog in FanDuel Sportsbook's MLB odds for Sunday's game against the New York Yankees.
