The Cleveland Guardians have announced their starting lineup for Game 1 of the 2022 AL Wild Card Series against the Tampa Bay Rays, which kicks off on Friday at 12:07 p.m. ET at Progressive Field in Cleveland.

Guardians Lineup Game 1

There are not too many surprises in Terry Francona's lineup. As expected, 2020 AL Cy Young winner Shane Bieber will be the starting pitcher after turning in another successful campaign, going 13-8 with a 2.88 ERA and 198 strikeouts in 200 innings. He'll go up against Rays lefty Shane McClanahan.

Rookie outfielder Steven Kwan will lead off for the Guardians, as he has for most of the season thanks to his contact-driven approach (.298 AVG) and on-base skills (.373 OBP). Kwan and Amed Rosario will set the table for superstar Jose Ramirez, who anchors the lineup with his power after leading the team with 29 home runs and 126 RBIs this season.

One surprise is Josh Naylor batting fifth given his struggles against left-handed pitching this season. While he had a strong campaign overall with 20 homers and 79 RBIs, Naylor batted .173 with just 1 home run versus southpaws this season.

Overall, the Guardians have a solid lineup that ranked middle-of-the-pack among AL teams in many categories this year. They'll try to kick off the best-of-three series with a win, as they're currently -122 moneyline favorites for Game 1 on FanDuel Sportsbook's MLB odds.
