The Indianapolis Colts have had some terrific teams over the years, featuring some of the greatest players in NFL history. Most notably, they have had some unbelievable talent at quarterback, but they have also had some solid players carrying the rock.

Heading into the 2020 season, the Colts will feature the talented duo of Marlon Mack and Jonathan Taylor, but will they be able to follow in the footsteps of some of the Indianapolis greats? These are the three best running backs in Colts franchise history.

3. Marshall Faulk (1994-98)

While the best years of his career may have came in St. Louis, Marshall Faulk began his NFL career with the Colts. He is third all-time in rushing yards, with 5,320, and he added 42 rushing touchdowns. He was also able to do a bit of damage in the receiving game, adding another 2,804 yards and 9 touchdowns. While he may have earned his Hall of Fame induction with his performance following the Colts, his play in Indianapolis is nothing to dismiss.

2. Edgerrin James (1999-2005)

The franchise's rushing leader, by far, is Edgerrin James, who totaled 9,226 yards on the ground. He also added 64 rushing touchdowns, which is another franchise-high mark. James led the NFL in rushing his first two years in the league, running for 1,553 and 1,709 yards, respectively. When healthy, he was a workhorse back for the Colts.

1. Lenny Moore (1956-67)

While he may not be the most notable name on this list, we head all the way back to Baltimore to find the greatest Colts running back of all time, in Lenny Moore. The Hall of Famer was a two-time NFL Champion, seven-time Pro Bowl selection and he was named to the first team All-Pro five times. He ran for 5,174 yards, which is just fifth in franchise history. However, he has the second-most rushing touchdowns (63), to go along with another 6,039 yards and 48 touchdowns in the receiving game. His overall numbers blow ever other Colts running back away.
