The Miami Dolphins' history has been an up-and-down affair. They are still the only franchise in NFL history with an undefeated season under their belt, but in recent years they've been among the league's worst teams.

That history has included some all-time great quarterbacks, though, and here are the top QBs in Dolphins history.

Best Miami Dolphins Quarterbacks of All Time

3. Ryan Tannehill (2012-2018)

His 2019 season with the Tennessee Titans was widely considered Ryan Tannehill's breakout, but he quietly showed plenty of promise during his time in Miami. He never lived up to the hype as a first-round pick, and the team didn't find a ton of success during his time as the starter, but Tannehill still threw for 20,434 yards with 123 touchdowns to just 75 interceptions. We of course need to take into account the pass-friendly era he's playing in, but his 87.0 passer rating in Miami was the second-best ever for a Dolphins passer with 500-plus attempts.

2. Bob Griese (1967-1980)

While Bob Griese actually lost his starting job for some of the Dolphins' perfect 16-0 1972 season, he reclaimed the role in time for the Super Bowl and led them to the final victory. That season is far from his only claim to fame, too. Griese was an eight-time Pro Bowler and two-time first-team All-Pro across his 14 seasons in Miami. He led the NFL in touchdowns once (1977) and completion percentage once (1978), and he ranks second in franchise history in both passing yards (25,092) and touchdowns (192).

1. Dan Marino (1983-1999)

This one's a no-brainer. One of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history, let alone Dolphins history, a lack of Super Bowl ring is one of the few things keeping Dan Marino out of the GOAT conversation. At the time of his retirement in 1999, Marino held the NFL career passing yardage record, with 61,361 yards. He still ranks fifth all-time in that category, and his 420 touchdown passes also sit fifth. The shift in the style of the game could make some of those counting stats become overlooked in the future, but in 1984 Marino became the first quarterback to ever top 5,000 yards in a season, throwing for 5,084. He easily cleared the old record at the time (4,802), which had been set by Dan Fouts in 1981.
