Dozens of the NFL's tight ends will take over Nashville, TN this week for the first-ever annual "Tight End University" camp. The three-day event was organized by San Francisco 49ers TE George Kittle, along with Kansas City Chiefs Travis Kelce and three-time Pro-Bowler Greg Olsen, as a way for the league's tight ends to learn from each other. However, when it comes to the invitees, one noticeable name was omitted from the invitation list: quarterback-turned-tight end Tim Tebow.
Kittle appeared on Barstool Sports' "Pardon My Take" podcast this week and discussed why Tebow wasn't invited to the camp. At the end of the day, it came down to Tebow being new to the position and a limited amount of spots for attendees.
Tim Tebow News
At the end of the day, Kittle said that it wouldn't be fair for him to invite Tebow — who has never played tight end before — and not invite other backup or third-string TEs who've been playing the position longer. At the same time, Kittle said that the organizers wanted to pay for everyone's expenses, which limits how many people could attend.
"I wish nothing but the best for Tim Tebow, and I hope he has a fantastic season playing tight end, but it's hard for me not to invite a backup tight end on, let's say the New York Giants, as opposed to inviting a guy who just started playing the tight end position because we do have limited spots."- George Kittle, San Francisco 49ers TE
However, just because the door is closed on Tebow this year doesn't mean that he'll never be invited to TEU. Kittle, Kelce and Olsen have already discussed the possibility of inviting him next year if he stays on the Jaguars roster and continues playing tight end. Olsen even said that he would "love to work" with Tebow if that ends up being the case.
Needless to say, there will be a big spotlight on Tebow this season. A lot of experts and fans feel like he only got a chance to return to the NFL because of his relationship with Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer. Now, the pressure is on Tebow to show that's he's capable of succeeding at a new position.
If he can't cut it, he shouldn't even bother to check his mailbox for any future scholarship offers to attend Tight End University.
