Former Packer Wins USFL Defensive Player of the Year

Die-hard football fans have been in for a treat this spring, with the USFL filling the void left by the long NFL offseason. It's fun watching a mix of veterans that you may remember from their college or even NFL days playing alongside youngsters hoping to make it in pro football.
One of these former NFL players really broke out, with Chris Odom winning USFL Defensive Player of the Year.

Even the most hardcore Green Bay Packers fans could be forgiven for not remembering Odom, but he has indeed suited up at Lambeau. An undrafted free agent in 2017, Odom played in seven games for the Pack as a rookie, tallying 6 tackles with 1 TFL. He also eventually suited up for a few games with Washington in 2019 as well.
Odom was a dominant force on the edge for the Houston Gamblers in 2022, leading the league with 12.5 sacks in 10 games. That's like racking up 21 sacks across a 17-game season, which is a mark only T.J. Watt beat last year.
Obviously the competition he was facing wasn't anything near what he would in the NFL, but it's also safe to say that the 27-year-old is playing the best football of his career. Considering what we've seen with some XFL standouts making the transition to depth and rotational roles in the NFL, it wouldn't be surprising to see an NFL team try to bring in Odom for training camp.
After losing Za'Darius Smith to the Minnesota Vikings, perhaps the Packers should have a reunion on their mind.
