As the PGA Tour season winds down, and the FedExCup Playoffs get going, players are preparing for The Northern Trust this week at Liberty National Golf Club. With most of the world's top players, this is going to be a really elite field.
With that in mind, let's take a look at three players to target for your fantasy team this week.
The Northern Trust Fantasy
Collin Morikawa is on a roll right now. He has grabbed four top-five finishes in his last five starts. Those five starts include two majors and the Olympics, all of which held similarly tough competition to what he will be facing this week. He only has one start at Liberty National, when he placed 52nd here last year, but with the chance to work toward finishing off his magical season with a FedExCup, Morikawa should be on his A game.
Rory McIlroy is in the midst of another great season as he looks to grab another FedExCup title. In his lone appearance on this course, at the 2019 Northern Trust, McIlroy finished No. 6. Coming back to a course he's got proven success at, coupled with the fact that he's grabbed five top-20 finishes, three top-10 finishes and a win in his last seven starts could mean big things for McIlroy this week. His length should be useful on this course, along with his No. 5 ranking in Strokes Gained (SG): Off-The-Tee, No. 8 in SG: Tee-To-Green and No. 12 in SG: Total.
Patrick Reed may not be having quite the season as the first two names on this list, only grabbing one top-25 finish in his last three starts, but he comes back to a place he loves in Liberty National. He won this event in 2019 here, against a similar field. What Reed lacks off the tee, he makes up for in his short game. He ranks No. 12 in SG: Around-The-Green and No. 6 in SG: Putting, which has added up to No. 11 in SG: Total this season. If Reed can come away with another win here, he will vault himself up the FedExCup leaderboard.
