The Atlanta Falcons have exceeded many people's expectations to start the season, especially during their dominant 28-14 win over the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday.
A high-profile win like that is starting to earn the Falcons the respect they deserve, and that was proven by Marcus Mariota taking home Week 6 NFC Offensive Player of the Week honors.
Mariota may not have posted the kind of gaudy numbers you often see from a Player of the Week winner, but it was his otherworldly efficiency that really pushed him over the edge. He completed 13 of his 14 pass attempts (92.9%) for 129 yards (9.21 per attempt) with 2 touchdowns and no interceptions. He also added 50 yards on 6 carries (8.3 per carry) and scored a touchdown on the ground to earn his fifth Player of the Week award and first since 2018.
The 28-year-old's impressive play and leadership have been at the core of Atlanta's success this year. He's passing the ball well enough with an 87.7 passer rating, and his legs (206 yards on 43 carries) have opened up the Falcons' dangerous rushing game, even with Cordarrelle Patterson sidelined.
Atlanta will look to keep the momentum going in Week 7 as a 6.5-point road underdog on FanDuel Sportsbook against the Cincinnati Bengals. The Falcons have covered the spread in all six games this season, and another win here would push them over .500 for the first time this year.
