Atlanta Falcons punter Cam Nizialek left the team's Week 4 loss to the Washington Football Team after injuring his hamstring during a kickoff. With Nizialek being sidelined for the foreseeable future, Atlanta has since signed his replacement.
NFL insider Adam Schefter reported on Monday that the Falcons will sign former Pro Bowl punter Dustin Colquitt off of their practice squad.
Atlanta Falcons Rumors
A former third-round selection in 2005, Colquitt spent the first 15 years of his 17-year NFL career with the Kansas City Chiefs, setting numerous team records while making the Pro Bowl twice.
Colquitt's best years may be behind him, but it'd be tough for the Falcons to find a better stopgap than the veteran until Nizialek returns.
The 39-year-old veteran most recently played six games in 2020 with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Pittsburgh Steelers, averaging 43.6 yards on 26 punts. He was ultimately waived by the Jaguars in January 2021 before spending the rest of the season on Kansas City's practice squad.
Colquitt will make his debut in a Falcons' uniform this Sunday morning when Atlanta takes on the New York Jets in London, England. FanDuel Sportsbook is currently listing Falcons as 3.5-point favorites with -112 odds to cover.
