Falcons Add Depth to Secondary With Latest Signing

Although the Atlanta Falcons had a myriad of defensive issues last season, one of their bright spots was having a secondary that allowed 218.4 passing yards per game (No. 16). That isn't a mind-blowing statistic, but it's impressive given that Atlanta allowed the third-most points per game.
With the Falcons hoping for a repeat performance from their secondary during the 2022 NFL season, they went out and added depth on Friday by signing cornerback Mike Ford to a one-year deal.

An undrafted free agent in 2018, Ford spent the first three seasons of his career with the Detroit Lions before joining the Denver Broncos in 2021. He didn't get much of a chance to shine in the Mile High City, finishing with just six tackles in 13 games without a start.
The Broncos used Ford more in a special teams role than in the secondary, proven by him playing 77% of snaps for the former as opposed to 2% of the latter. Even though he could see more playing time in Atlanta, the Falcons' website indicates that he could likely "have a similar role" with his new team in the 2022 NFL season.
The Falcons previously added to their CB depth with the signing of Casey Hayward earlier this offseason. Plus, there's a handful of cornerbacks returning from last year who are deserving of starting spots. Fans should have a better idea of Ford's role once training camp begins.
Oddsmakers don't think that there's much for Falcons fans to be excited about next year. FanDuel Sportsbook's Super Bowl Odds currently list Atlanta at +18000 to win Super Bowl LVII.
