Eagles Reveal Honorary Captain for NFC Championship

The Philadelphia Eagles are pulling out all the stops ahead of an NFC Championship game showdown against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday afternoon. Hall of Fame defensive back Brian Dawkins will join the team as an honorary captain and act as a motivator for head coach Nick Sirianni's squad.

Philadelphia Eagles NFC Championship

Dawkins is a Philadelphia legend as he spent 13 seasons playing for the Eagles and is responsible for some of the hardest hits in NFL history. The four-time All-Pro finished his career with 1,147 tackles, 153 pass breakups, 37 interceptions and 36 forced fumbles. Dawkins was as versatile as it gets.

Keep in mind 'Weapon X' was part of a Philly team that made four straight conference championships in 2001-2005. He also played a role in building the roster that won the franchise's first Super Bowl title in 2017. Dawkins served as the executive of football operations for player development that season.

Having a legend in the house is never a bad idea, especially one that knows how to fire up a both a crowd and the players on the field. The Eagles enter Sunday as a victor in 15 of their last 18 games. Building on that momentum early and often against a talented 49ers team will be the key to success.

Kickoff between the Eagles and 49ers is set for 3 p.m. ET and will air on FOX. Philadelphia is slated as a 2.5-point favorite with -156 moneyline odds at Lincoln Financial Field, according to FanDuel Sportsbook's NFL odds. The Eagles also have odds set at +230 to win Super Bowl 57.
