Dwayne Haskins Overtaking Mason Rudolph as Steelers' No. 2 QB

There's a few teams around the NFL still trying to figure out who will be their starting quarterback when Week 1 of the season hits. The Pittsburgh Steelers certainly aren't one of them as the legendary Ben Roethlisberger suits up for his 18th season.
However, there may be a different QB competition emerging in Steelers training camp. Former Washington Football Team QB Dwayne Haskins Jr. is making a serious case to take over as Big Ben's backup.

Currently, Mason Rudolph owns the No. 2 QB role in Pittsburgh. But, Haskins doesn't think that will last long. He recently told reporters he's trying to make the QB2 role an open competition during training camp.
For Haskins, this makes perfect sense. After all, he was selected No. 15 overall in the 2019 draft and spent at least part of two seasons as the starter in Washington. The experiment in Washington didn't last long, but Haskins clearly has a redemption story on his mind.
In two years with the WFT, Haskins started 13 games while recording 2,804 passing yards and 12 touchdowns to 14 interceptions while touting a 74.4 QB rating.
Pittsburgh drafted Rudolph in the third round of the 2018 draft. He's seen action in just 15 games and nine total starts over the past two years. In that span, Rudolph recorded an 82.7 QB rating with 2,000-plus passing yards and 15 touchdowns to 10 interceptions.
It'll be interesting to see how the Haskins-Rudolph competition plays out the rest of training camp, but this is one battle to keep an eye on in Pittsburgh.
