Houston Astros standout Yordan Alvarez got off to a solid start to the 2021 MLB season before taking off in May. Alvarez pushed his season batting average to as high as .362 this month, but it's come crashing down in recent games amid an obvious slump.

His struggles landed him on the bench on Sunday against the Texas Rangers, manager Dusty Baker revealed.

Baker put it plainly that Alvarez is a "little bit lost right now." That's clearly not what you want from one of your key contributors, but it also comes with the territory of the grueling baseball season. There's good stretches and bad stretches. Alvarez has already been through both as the second month of the season comes to a close.

Alvarez only has three hits over his last five games, batting just .143 through those 21 at bats. Even with his recent struggles, though, he's still hitting .320 this season with 7 home runs and 26 RBI.

The best hitters snap out of their slumps. And it's good that Baker is taking steps to help his player out by giving him a day off to get back on track.
