Milwaukee Brewers fans are hoping reliever Devin Williams will make the 2022 MLB All-Star team as a replacement after being left off of the initial roster earlier this week. Williams was snubbed again on Tuesday, though, as Carlos Rodon was selected to take the place of teammate Josh Hader.
After getting passed over as a sub for his bullpen partner, Williams pleaded his case to make the All-Star team.
Devin Williams All-Star
Williams said in postgame comments he's "never been an All-Star at any level", but now he feels like he's deserving of that honor. He stated that he believes he's a top-five reliever in the NL and should be on the roster as a result.
It's difficult to argue against Williams' case. He boasts a meager 1.87 ERA across 33.2 innings, proving he's one of the best bullpen arms in the entire majors. He's racked up a whopping 56 strikeouts (with just 19 walks) while in his vital role as Hader's setup man.
Williams' absence from the All-Star roster is so egregious his teammates are even publicly campaign for him to make the team.
With only six games finished and five saves this season, it's hard for Williams to draw the attention he'd earn as a star closer, but his performance has solidified him as one of the league's top relievers. Hopefully he gets the All-Star selection that his play clearly deserves.
