The New Orleans Saints have their new head coach, promoting Dennis Allen from defensive coordinator to replace Sean Payton. With the job finally filled, now Allen and the Saints can move forward with addressing the roster and creating an offseason plan.

Quarterback remains one of the biggest current question marks, and Allen has given his initial thoughts on the position.

Figuring out the team's QB for next year is a top priority for the new head coach. He made it clear what the organization wants: a "winner" with "tireless work ethic."

"That’s going to be one of the first things that we do, is get together as a staff, as an organization, and evaluate that position."

As an internal candidate, Allen already has some thoughts on the current crop of QBs and possible targets around the league.

Re-signing Jameis Winston seems like the most plausible outcome. He was a standout over the first six and a half games (1,170 yards, 14 TDs, 3 INTs) before going down with a season-ending injury. There's a risk with a player coming back from a major surgery like Winston's, but he's certainly worthy of being QB1 if he regains his from.

Then there's Taysom Hill, Trevor Siemian and Ian Book. Hill struggled with injuries and threw more INTs (5) than TDs (4) in 2021. Siemian had solid numbers (1,154 yards, 11 TDs, 3 INTs) but went 0-4 as the starter.

Book, meanwhile, took a beating in his only start of the year and could benefit from some extra seasoning before legitimately competing in this QB room.

Teams around the league can't rule out the Saints from potentially making a splash this offseason, either. There may be a couple of big-name QBs on the market, so New Orleans could try to secure a long-term starter as the Allen era gets underway.
