Dark Horse Teams That Can Steal Leonard Fournette

The Jacksonville Jaguars opted to release Leonard Fournette on Monday morning. The move doesn't come as too much of a shock, with Fournette having been the subject of trade rumors all offseason. The move does throw franchises a bit of a curveball just 10 days away from kickoff, though.
With that in mind, here are three dark horse teams that could swoop in to sign the former LSU Tiger.
3. Pittsburgh Steelers
The Pittsburgh Steelers will likely be relying on James Conner quite a bit in 2020. With Ben Roethlisberger returning from a devastating elbow injury, the organization probably doesn't want him leading the league in pass attempts like he did in 2018. Unfortunately, Conner has had his own problems staying on the field, as he's never played a full 16-game season. Fournette would be a great insurance policy were Conner to go down, and his hard-nosed running style makes him a natural fit in Pittsburgh.
2. Atlanta Falcons
The Atlanta Falcons' lead back Todd Gurley has also had well-documented injury issues over the past few seasons. He's currently set to get the lion's share of the touches in Atlanta, but limiting his playing time is probably in the team's best interest. Fournette would be a great option to spell Gurley. His strengths are similar to Gurley's, as he's a solid pass-catcher (76 catches in 2019) and a traditional between-the-tackles runner. Fournette would need to agree to a significant discount in Atlanta, though.
1. Miami Dolphins
With Fournette gone, the Jaguars probably have the worst group of RBs in the league, but the Miami Dolphins are a close second. Jordan Howard and Matt Breida won't scare opposing defenses, and with $24 million in space Miami can certainly afford to upgrade that unit with Fournette.
