The Chicago Cubs held a slim lead for the final NL Wild Card spot for several weeks, but they are now seeing their hopes start to fade following a bad five-game skid ahead of their Sunday series finale against the St. Louis Cardinals.

Sunday's games notwithstanding, the Cubs trailed their division rival Milwaukee Brewers by three game for the final Wild Card spot. As such, they have a nine percent chance to make the postseason, while the Brewers are a heavy favorite at 90 percent.

The Washington Nationals currently hold the first Wild Card spot, while the New York Mets, Philadelphia Phillies and Arizona Diamondback are all mathematically still alive, but more or less out of the playoff picture barring a miracle.

The Cubs' losing skid started with the two final games of their home series against the Cincinnati Reds earlier this week. They went on to lose the first three games of a four-set with the NL Central-leading Cardinals. The untimely losing streak drops the Cubs' odds to win the World Series to +3000, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.

Mets Playoff Odds

The Mets might have sealed their postseason fate late in August when, after starting hot following the All-Star break, they went on to lose six key home games in a row to the NL East-leading Atlanta Braves and Cubs.

The Mets are 12-8 so far in September, but are likely done for as far as the playoffs are concerned. They have a two percent chance of making the playoffs and are +6500 to win the World Series.

Phillies Playoff Odds

The Phillies find themselves in a similar position as the Mets, having dropped key games and playing mostly .500 baseball as of late. They have a microscopic 0.3 percent chance of making the playoffs and are +10000 to win the World Series.
