The 2021 NFL Draft is just over a week away and the Dallas Cowboys will be looking to make an impactful selection with the No. 10 overall pick. They finished last season 6-10 and missed the playoffs, but seem like a team ready to bounce back assuming they can stay healthy.

There is a ton of talent in this draft class and Dallas needs to make sure it doesn't mess this up. With that being said, here are three players the Cowboys need to avoid with their first-round pick.

1. Rashawn Slater, OL, Northwestern

Rashawn Slater is rightfully one of the top offensive line prospects in the draft class, but the Cowboys do not need to draft him in the first round. While they should look to build depth along the line, that can be done in the later rounds. Dallas returns starting linemen La'el Collins, Tyron Smith and Zack Martin this season so using a top-10 pick at the position doesn't seem very useful. Slater could be a star at the next level, but Dallas needs to address a bigger need on the roster here.

2. Zaven Collins, LB, Tulsa

It'll definitely be intriguing for the Cowboys to have their choice amongst the linebacker prospects, but they should stay away from Zaven Collins in the first round. He has been climbing up draft boards everywhere, but Collins doesn't fix Dallas' biggest need on defense. They need a starting cornerback. Collins has the size to play well in the NFL, but his speed needs to improve to keep up with speedy pass-catchers. Starters Jaylon Smith and Leighton Vander Esch should be able to carry the load at the linebacker spot for this team for at least the next few seasons.

3. Christian Barmore, DL, Alabama

It is vital for the Cowboys to not reach with the No. 10 overall pick and that means staying away from defensive tackle Christian Barmore. It wouldn't be surprising to see Dallas select someone at this position, but this is a notably weak class when it comes to the defensive line. They could wait until after the first round and still grab a great developmental player. This kind of move simply isn't worth the price. Barmore looks ready to make an impact in the NFL after forcing 3 fumbles and totaling 8.0 sacks last season, but it should be with another team.
