With only days left until the deadline to place the franchise tag on players, all eyes on are contract negotiations between quarterback Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys. Prescott could be the rare player to play under the tag for a second time if he and the team don't agree to a long-term extension.

However, the latest update on contract talks is incredibly optimistic.

Dak Prescott Contract Negotiations

On Tuesday night, discussions between Prescott and the team were characterized as "more productive than they have been." This provides hope that the two sides are nearing a long-term deal to keep Prescott in Dallas for the considerable future.

Prescott is reportedly looking to be the second-highest paid QB in the league, behind Kansas City Chiefs star Patrick Mahomes. Although the Cowboys' quarterback had his season cut short due to an ankle injury, he was playing at an incredibly high level.

With the QB now on the mend, there should be little doubts about his ability to return to form in 2021.

Teams have until Mar. 9 to use the franchise tag, but with progess between Prescott and the Cowboys, they could have a contract wrapped up before then.
