Updated (Monday, Nov. 29, 1:55 p.m. EST): The Panthers have placed Christian McCaffrey on injured reserve due to an ankle injury, ending his season. Chuba Hubbard should be a rock-solid RB2 the rest of the way.

Christian McCaffrey's variety of ailments hasn't allowed him to be the RB1 many fantasy managers drafted him to be back in August. To make matters worse, it looks like the injury bug has raised its head once again. McCaffrey left the Carolina Panthers' Week 12 loss in the first half due to a rolled ankle.

Christian McCaffrey Fantasy Outlook

McCaffrey was seen in a walking boot following the game and will undergo further testing in order to determine the extent of his injury. Initial reports claim he avoided any major damage, though. It'll be intriguing to see whether or not he can play in Week 14 following the team's bye.

The Pro Bowler has been a reliable RB1 since returning to action, ranking as the RB8 in PPR scoring leagues across Weeks 9 through 12. Overall, McCaffrey has racked up 785 total yards and scored 2 touchdowns across 7 games played in 2021. He is also averaging a career-high 9.3 yards per reception.

If McCaffrey is unable to suit up in Week 14, the Panthers will turn back to Chuba Hubbard to take on the bulk of the work. The rookie out of Oklahoma State has started five games for Carolina this season, racking up 417 total yards and 2 touchdowns on 102 touches during that span. It's notable to point out that Hubbard finished as the RB19 in PPR scoring leagues from Weeks 4 through 8.

Fantasy managers have hopefully kept Hubbard stashed on the bench in case a situation like this was to arise. McCaffrey's status for Week 14 should become clearer over the next two weeks of practice.
