Tampa Bay Buccaneers fans have been waiting for an update regarding wide receiver Chris Godwin's status for a Week 1 battle against the Dallas Cowboys. The team hasn't released any significant news on their end, but Godwin himself did reveal the factor that will determine whether or not he suits up for Tampa Bay's season opener.

Chris Godwin Week 1 Update

Godwin made an appearance on the "In the Moment" podcast with David Greene and took the time to dive deep into how his injury is lining up for the season. He explained that it's "going to come down to feel," as no one except him, his wife and his physical therapist truly know where he's at in his recovery.

The Pro Bowl wideout declined to provide a percentage on his chances of playing in Week 1 because he has never experienced an injury like this before. Godwin tore his ACL in Week 15 of the 2021 NFL season, and he still regrets being unable to play in the ensuing postseason.

"I would love to be there for the entire season, but I think what's more important is being there for the second half of the season. Being there for what I missed last year."

Chris Godwin on a return timeline

There's no denying that the Buccaneers are a better team when Godwin is healthy and catching passes from quarterback Tom Brady. The 26-year-old has racked up an impressive 3,276 yards on 249 receptions over the last three seasons, both of which rank first among Tampa Bay players.

This remains a storyline to keep an eye on. If Godwin cannot suit up, look for Mike Evans, Russell Gage and Julio Jones to headline the passing attack. Tampa Bay is tabbed as a 2.5-point road favorite against Dallas with odds set at -132 on the moneyline, according to FanDuel Sportsbook's Week 1 NFL odds.
